2015 was the year of culottes and I recall the day I was obliviously grabbing sale items off the rack at Debenhams and spotted this dark floral, front pleated pair of cotton culotte shorts. Something about it just made me want to instantly grab it and when I decided to put this pair together, I was in amour! I am all for trends that are big on comfort and these short-trouser hybrids are very similar to gaucho pants with a cinched waist and extremely flared knee-length bottoms.

Outfit Details: Top - Bershka, Culotte Shorts - Oasis at Debenhams, Shoes - Forever 21, Clutch - Accessorize

I’m not a major fan of off- shoulders simply because they look very unstable and uncomfortable- the opposite of myself- but this loose sandy top had been sitting at the back of my drawer for about two years now and I just had to find its purpose, and ALAS! I thought the outfit was very neat, chic and perfect for a brunchy or a by-the-pier mid-day feel. I wore this a while ago when the weather was losing its warmth, and it did manage to at least keep half my body warm....

Nevertheless, I adore the outfit and look forward to creating another look as it would be exciting to spice up this statement piece again. I love how transformative culottes can be. Pair it with a short sleeve fitted shirt for a formal look or a baggy shirt for a relaxed casual look. I also like the idea of pairing it with neutral tones and low key accessories to let the culottes really shine.

I always tend to keep my shoes simple. A good tip is to choose shoe colors that match your clothes instead of colors that compete with your clothes- Of course I stuck with my neutral coloured flats as it would draw more attention to my statement shorts.

Ever since this find, I have bought quite a few pairs of culottes and I cant wait to show you one particular mustard one that I love!! As culottes aren't going anywhere anytime soon, the start of a new year is the perfect time to find fresh ways to style them.

Any other tips on how to style this breezy trend?
