Ladies Day Out

Over the weekend, we, together with our moms and aunts, visited the much talked about Ladies Day Out (LDO) organized by Turret Media and boy was it a hot but fun day out.  The three-day al fresco extravaganza was filled with fashion, beauty, health and shopping dedicated exclusively to women. What's more, it's free entry gave us access to over 70 brands and 20 exhibitor experiences not to mention a goodie bag of sample size products from Olay, Hugo Boss, Oral-B, Crest and Pantene.

 

We ladies love to be pampered and primed and LDO gave us a chance to experience the latest hair, beauty and nail treatments free of charge. We got a mini nail manicure at The Nail Spa, a quick facial, our hands creamed at Dove, our face moisturized at Pond’s and tested our eyesight at Moorefields Eye Clinic - Just what we needed to relax before heading out to Redfest DXB to see Iggy Azalea. 

                               

To add to the fun factor, lots of stalls had entertaining activities to participate in like spin the wheel, guess the item in a box, trivias or just simply register your details to win some amazing prizes like discount coupons, a holiday package, spa vouchers and gift hampers.  Actimel and Ornamic C kept us hydrated and energized as we sweated it out under the hot afternoon sun trying our luck.

 

Whilst we indulged in some mouthwatering Korean food from Sonamu’s pop up restaurant, we gained some valuable insights on ‘How to Master the Art of Social Media’ from a live interview with Shereen Mitwalli, Founder and CEO of the biggest female community in the Middle East known as ‘The Female Network’ and Alanoud Badr (a.k.a Fozaza) founder and designer of Lady Fozaza, an internationally-acclaimed fashion designer, consultant and stylist. 

 

It was indeed a great experience and apart from the usual mall trawl, this was a perfect event to hang out with womenfolk in our family.  Look forward to another exciting event from Turret Media.

Tish Tash Bloggers Lunch

One of our favorite PR agencies, Tish Tash, cordially invited us for a mid-week stress break lunch at Nando’s in The Greens. With our hectic schedules, it was definitely calming to sit back, meet some of Dubai’s well-known bloggers and relish the popular Nando's Peri-Peri chicken. One thing we’ve noticed about all the branches of Nando's in the UAE is their impeccable service quality. Food and beverages were ordered and served in a matter of a few minutes which made us enjoy the lunch EVEN MORE!

 

By the time we had arrived, most people were enjoying their appetizers which consisted of warm Arabic bread and hummus. Lunch was served as soon as the lunch table was packed and in less than five, there was an array of mild-hot Peri-Peri chicken pieces, chips, seasoned potato wedges, Portuguese mash potatoes, grilled veggies and cheddar spinach. Yum indeed…

 

Natasha Hatherall, the Managing Director of Tish Tash, along with her co-workers and team hosted the lunch to share some insight on the future projects of Tish Tash for the year which we are very keen and excited about being a part of. We look forward to some fun collaborations with Tish Tash and wish them the best of luck for 2015 :)

The Fashion Festival - Season 1

Muse Dubai, a fast growing Talent and PR agency,  in collaboration with Dubai Garden Centre organized the first season of the Fashion Festival, a platform for local and international based designers, artists and food entrepreneurs to come together to celebrate Fashion, Art and Entertainment.

 

FF included a popup exhibition area for designers to exhibit their latest collections and an art corner for artists to paint live in front of an audience while enjoying some great music and food.

The huge outdoor ‘Jungle’ area was a great destination for an exhibition amongst the flora and fauna.

 

To tickle everyone's taste buds, the event had some great vendors including Moti Roti, The Farm House, The Flavour Shack but we skipped the food to satisfy our sugar cravings with cookie cupcakes from Fashion Sweets - delicious little treats that felt like a piece of heaven in our mouths.  

 

All in all it was indeed a great opportunity for creative collaborations and a step to support the growing pop-up events culture in the UAE.

Vaseline's Mind, Body and Soul Day

Vaseline is one of the most trusted brands with respect to natural beauty and skincare products and have been around since the 1870s safely helping skin heal for over 140 years. The famous and most sold item is definitely the petroleum jelly, which has surpassed decades of improvement to finally reach its target of 99.98% all natural petroleum jelly extracted from the soil. The mere 1% are ingredients added to retain the texture of the jelly. One jar can be used to treat various skin ailments - cracked heels, damaged cuticles, chapped lips, dry hands, dry nose among others.

Imagine our excitement when we were cordially invited by Vaseline to attend the bloggers wellness event that was well put together by H2Q Events and Promotions. Familiar and well known faces from Dubai’s wellness industry were also present and we were indeed privileged to personally meet them.

At 9 AM Gillian Harper, renowned yoga instructor and personal trainer based in Dubai, kicked off the morning with some Hatha yoga, which was actually quite difficult given that majority of the bloggers present were beginners! Yet, it was a refreshing start to everyones day.


After a relaxed and rejuvenating session of yoga, we assembled at the main hall for some delicious and healthy breakfast nibbles - cornflakes, juices, oats, tea coffee- you name it!  Razan Sahuri, a well-known certified nutritionist, conducted an informative and interactive talk about the myths, fads and truth about various super foods and how we can tackle the most common problems faced by women in Dubai - dry skin, brittle hair, dark circles, acne and so forth. We came away with a very important lesson, that “what’s good for your skin is good for the hair”.

The next was a beauty session with a lady who needs no introduction, Huda Kattan, Brand Ambassador of Vaseline Arabia and the woman behind the brand Huda Beauty! She presented a quick demonstration on her DIYs for the Vaseline petroleum jelly which included adding green tea extract and almond oil to banish under eye circles and cinnamon extract to plump up your lips. 

 

Post the session we all got to join her and make our own little pots of the Vaseline concoction followed by a 15 minute reflexology session using Vaseline total moisture lotion at the Anantara Spa! It truly was extremely relaxing, (might we admit we saw some ladies sleep halfway through the massage)

By half past 12 we all sat down for a hearty yet healthy lunch (we absolutely fell in love with the baked chicken and the wok fried beef!) During this time we got talking to Haifa Al Musawi, who provides the most advanced, and result-driven weight loss and fitness & nutrition programs for ultimate physique and lifestyle transformation. We learnt 3 things to help improve our body, the importance of portion control, banishing bread and pasta from your diet and lastly incorporating at least 30 minutes of workout in your day.

 

Before leaving, we were given a little goodie bag with Vaseline’s total moisture body lotion, a travel size bottle of the lotion and a bottle of the famous petroleum jelly.

All in all, it was a very educative and interactive event. We now know that one jar has many uses and definitely going to incorporate these in our lives.  

OBlogger Event

Being newbies in the local blogger world, we were excited to attend our first official blogger get-together organized and hosted by two lovely makeup bloggers Sarah popularly known by her Instagram name as ‘Opinionated Sarah’ and Menna known as ‘Beauty With Menna’.

 

Upon arrival at the De La Mer Day Spa, we were directed to a gorgeous little garden which had various stalls from all the lovely sponsors; Rimmel, Sally Hansen, Glambox, Bioderma, Escada and Hummingbird bakery. The event was super cute and intimate and we couldn’t help treat ourselves to the yummy cookies and cupcakes from Hummingbird Bakery!! The competitions and tasks that were conducted at the #OBloggerParty was definitely something that got everyone in the mood. 

Glambox hosted a competition where you had to guess the products contained inside a mystery glambox. Sad to say, we both got 2/5 right :( But this didn't stop us! We headed over to the Escada stand for their competition where you had to pick a lucky chit to win a pair of Escada sunglasses. Apart from really just taking your best guess you probably needed Lady Luck on your side and last night well I think she favored us both coz we won a pair each!! Oh were we ecstatic indeed!!

After chatting away and getting to know a few bloggers, we headed on to De La Mer’s Salon to get our nail polish changed (Yes, that was another surprise organized by Sarah). With about 6 shades to choose from, I went with a very tiramisu shade and Sue opted for a siren red. Sally Hansen gel polish merely has the effect of a gel finish with a longer lasting stay power which is always a plus! 

Lastly, we had to take the opportunity of getting our skin analyzed at the Bioderma stall. With the aid of some their in-house skin testing equipment and a dermatologist; we were briefed upon our skin’s condition with solutions on how to counteract the issues.

 

A huge thank you going out to Sarah and Menna for organizing the perfect #Obloggerparty and not to mention the gorgeous goodie bags. The evening was definitely the highlight of our day and we look forward to meeting all the lovely ladies again.

Launch of Splash's 2014 A/W Collection - 'Exit 21'

From the sparkly oversized t-shirt dresses, to the faux mink coats and thigh high boots, Splash, the home-grown high street retailer, had heads turning at their second fashion show of the year showcasing the 2014 A/W collection "Exit 21" at Madinat Arena on 26th September 2014.

 

With straight cut silhouettes, androgynous looks in fur and faux leather coats, this year’s fashion is all about cozying up for the winter. Instead of the usual dull winter palette of colors, the collection comprised of a standard set of fall colors like burnt orange, taupe, auburn and dusty pink and the unexpected vibrant hues of blues, lemon yellow and bright oranges.

 

Trends such as the trapeze dresses and pastel colors showcased on the Splash runway also seen in the Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent collections paid tribute to the classic sixties baby doll look . According to B&B, Splash Is definitely keeping up with the indispensible fur obsession incorporating a lot of fall inspired colors like beige, reds and tans, also reinterpreted by famous luxury brands like Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Roberto Cavalli. One of our favorite outfits had to be the military khaki crop top and pants slightly cinched at the waist. Khaki being the prime color in these military inspired outfits gave the illusion of a much put together and structured look, just like a solider ;) This review will not be complete without mentioning the sparkly sporty chic pieces! The sporty aesthetic trend was seen in blue, white and sparkly silver bringing a bit of casual, sporty vibe on the Splash runway.

 

The hairdos were something we couldn’t stop raving about. All we have to say ladies is work BRAIDS, BRAIDS AND SOME MORE BRAIDS. The stunning models rocked long braided weaves in a high pony, corn rows and tightly braided buns along with some tribal printed extension-dreads which added a whole new dimension to the look for a few outfits.

 

Hot off the heels of turning 21, Splash has confidently entered into a new dimension of trendy high street garments. Here’s to many more years of eccentric, elegant and eclectic collections.

 

Instead of paying bomb prices, Splash will be launching their affordable, on-trend and eye catching collection online and in stores on the 20th of October 2014.

The Pop-Up Party, Dubai

Browse and brushes decided to drop by at the most talked about event in the blogger circuit that took place on Saturday, 20th September 2014 - THE POP-UP PARTY! And boy were we glad!

 

The artistic and fashion forward A4 Space in Al Serkal Avenue was little closed to packed when we got there at about 11:15 AM. We loved the offbeat venue and felt that there was just something about the warehouse feel and fashion that just totally clicked! Being our first blogger event, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to personally meet and interact with a few Dubai based bloggers and also meet a couple of our followers. The Co-Founder of TheFashSet, Shikkha, definitely put up a fabulous event and was lovely enough to take few minutes out of her hectic day to meet with us and have a bit of a chat :)

 

Upon arriving, we were welcomed with a little goodie bad and a delicious refreshing bottle of Scavi & Ray, chilled out of the box (hopefully they retail outside). AND how great was the talk of the party - THE NUTELLA CUPCAKES - super moist and delicious, not to mention the colorful eye-catching tower of MACAROONS ! Sugarholic definitely fulfilled our sugar cravings that day ;) 

The pop-up party was indeed a great opportunity for upcoming fashion and jewellery designers to showcase their product range to a selective yet a good crowd of people. Our favorite collection was MOUNAY's 2014 A/W collection by Mona Ead Mikati. Her designs were detailed, intricate and super fashionable, just the way we like it. Two of our favorite pieces from her latest collection were the ‘pastel ombre blazer’ [TO DIE FOR BTW] and the elegant yet simple ‘golden dip top and matching skirt’. We know we will be looking out for more events by TheFashSet and hopefully get a chance to meet fellow bloggers, designers, fashion lovers and other movers and shakers in the industry.
