Fashion shows have always fascinated me, as a kid and when we were invited to attend Fashion Forward Dubai – Season 6, fond memories came tumbling back in a fresh wave of nostalgia. I still remember the first local fashion show I ever attended was held at Global Village back in 1999. At the end of the show, they picked a few teenage boys and girls from the crowd to walk the ramp and I squealed with excitement when I was called. All these years later, I am so grateful to be a bigger part of it all with FFWD. It really puts everything into perspective that I did manage to reach some of those former goals. The absolute highlight of my blogging life would be attending New York Fashion Week …someday and of course having to share my personal experience with you.

FFWD has become the region’s definitive fashion platform and Season 6 closed its Spring/Summer ’16 season to great acclaim from industry figures, with presentations by 59 designers, of which 32 designers showed across 21 runway shows and 9 presentations, and 27 jewelry and accessories brands exhibited at the new concept space – The Showcase.

This season saw local talent take couture to the next level with Hussein Bazaza who stole the wow factor on day 1 with lavish, colorfully embroidered gowns, vibrant Persian-inspired prints, and relaxed lounge-y cape-backed frocks for day.

Michael Cinco ended the first night with spectacular fashion with stunning ball gowns that highlighted his incredible skill as a couturier. Midi-length looks featured stunning ombré surfaces that sparkled with thousands of tiny crystals, while one of the most impressive looks of the evening was his stained-glass gown.

Yousef Jasmi, in particular, put on a jaw-dropping display, with voluminous couture gowns covered in thousands of multi-colored, hand-stitched petals. It was at these moments you wished you could pin everything with your eyes.

In addition to the shows, FFWD also hosted a series of significant industry figures through the ‘d3 Fashion Talks’ including: Karen Buglisi Weiler, Global Brand President of M•A•C Cosmetics; Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist; Huda Kattan, Middle East’s Top Beauty Bloggers and Imran Amed, Founder and CEO of The Business of Fashion. Huda’s segment was the most interesting and she really hit a chord with us talking about her formative blogging years.

Outfit details: Jumpsuit - ICONIC, Jacket - Quiz, Heels - Steve Madden, Clutch - Spades, Necklace - ZARA

I wore this breezy jumpsuit on the first day of presentations and dressed it up with a sleeveless waistcoat in a lightweight ponte fabric and this ‘hotline bling’ from Zara (sorry this song is stuck in my head). I salute the person who invented the jumpsuit as it’s the comfiest and flattering outfit you can wear to any sort of event. Jumpsuits are one fashion trend that isn’t going anywhere and I am definitely going to experiment with different styling options this winter.
