The perpetual dose of sunshine in the sandpit means you’re never fully dressed without a pair of sunglasses. My mom believes I am a nocturnal creature because I need my sunnies the minute I step out during the day, much like the fact that my bedroom curtains must closed and I prefer the shade to a brightly lit spot. Until about two years ago though, I found myself looking at sunglasses not for its true purpose but as an accessory with enough personality to pack a powerful punch to an outfit.
Think embellished frames, round styles to complement the retro trend and bright mirrored lenses not forgetting the super popular cat eye frames which by the way are my ultimate favourite.

...So you can imagine the excitement when we were invited to the Luxottica Press Day for a preview of the latest Spring Summer 2016 collections that are now available in stores across the UAE. Here’s a look at some of our favorites from each brand.
BURBERRY

The Gabardine Lace Collection is Burberry’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection of sunglasses and optical frames for women. This collection references English heritage lace, detailed on the gold metal temples that are inspired by draped gabardine lace. The metal temples are created using a casting process, traditionally used in fine jewellery and sculpture.
DOLCE & GABBANA

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana declare their love for the “Mother” in the Dolce & Gabbana
Autumn-Winter 2015/16 collection. The 'Mama’s Brocade' collection draws inspiration from the island of Sicily for a vintage effect. Frames with brocade detailing evoke the furnishings of baroque palazzi, in both the sophisticated embossed monochrome version and its floral cousin, decorated with a bouquet of red roses.
EMPORIO ARMANI

The new colours and shapes in the Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Emporio Armani eyewear collection features urban modern flair that merges sleek lines with singular textures. A unique and innovative mix of materials like aluminium and rubber, geometric shapes and intense colours make every frame in the collection special. Once again, attention to detail comes to the forefront with the use of decorative motifs and design elements. The iconic Emporio Armani eagle logo is even revamped into a detail with a modern aesthetic.
GIORGIO ARMANI

Giorgio Armani’s notion of elegance is inherent in its Fall/Winter 2015-2016 eyewear which features flawlessly designed, visually striking, understated and sophisticated silhouettes with subtly futuristic aesthetics. Cool winter hues in the women’s styles stand out, recalling colors seen on the runway. Frames are available in icy shades of green, blue, sky blue, grey and silver that are lustrous and even iridescent at times.
MICHAEL KORS


The Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Michael Kors eyewear collection captures the sophisticated style and cutting-edge craftsmanship that define the brand. Inspired by the designer’s signature jet set sensibility, this collection of sun and optical styles showcases a variety of designs, from cool cat-eye shapes to sporty aviators, vintage-inspired frames and more.
The eyewear collection’s clean lines and soft curves feature custom-made materials that recall the same refinement of the ready-to-wear collection—a true celebration of the streamlined luxury derived from Michael Kors’ profound vision of women’s fashion.
MIU MIU

The new Miu Miu eyewear collection is a creative blend of contradictions and stylistic touches. Glitter fabric, suede leather, crystals and mirrors – iconic elements of Miu Miu’s eyewear collections – are reinterpreted, giving life to a retro-inspired women’s collection.
In the new Miu Miu “Reveal” collection, unconventional design takes the form of large, eccentric frames, a well-balanced combination of thick profiles and ethereal lenses overlapping the frame. These glasses create an interplay of masks and transparencies: their oversize silhouettes highlight rather than conceal the face.
Multifaceted crystals enrich the suede-covered fronts as well as the pave temples of the collection’s new models. Lastly, Miu Miu reinterprets metal frames with a mirror and coloured effect, which adds a glamorous touch.
OAKLEY

Oakley makes a bold statement with new prescription eyewear, Nine-To-Five. Perfect for those seeking all-day comfort, Nine-To-Five is constructed from lightweight, durable acetate and ultra-thin temples with flexible spring hinges. A feminine design inspired by a masculine retro rectangular frame style results in a shape that is on-trend, yet flattering for any face.
PERSOL

Vintage Collection
Loved by stars of the big screen for its unmistakable appeal, Persol eyewear has become the must-have accessory thanks to the enviable quality etched into the brand’s very DNA. The new Fall/Winter 2015 Prada eyewear collection for women is a fine interplay of variations on the theme of beauty. The collection has ultra-feminine styles and chromatic opulence, large shapes and tapered profiles.
The new Fall/Winter 2015 Prada ‘Soft Pop’ special collection blends 1970s notes with a ‘soft pop’ allure: pastel hues dominate the entire collection, lending a sweet, feminine flair to the oversize frames.
The Prada Journal special collection is enriched with a new optical frame for women. Sinuous lines and smooth, high-relief details on the temples confirm the exquisite craftsmanship and the use of premium materials characterising Prada’s collections, for an essential retro-inspired style.
Lastly, metal is back in vogue, with a tapered design that nods to the 1970s and is perfectly matched with bold acetate details embellishing the new collection’s oversized silhouettes.
RAYBAN




For Spring/Summer 2016 Ray-Ban celebrates its legendary role as a world leader in trend-setting design with a revival of Icons and time-tested shapes on both optical & sun styles.
In this collection, the Icons segment takes center stage with the Havana Collection, paying tribute to four of Ray-Ban’s most famous shapes: the Ray-Ban Aviator, Shooter, Outdoorsman and Caravan. Honoring their DNA design, these legendary sun frames’ return with fine Arista gold profiles, classic havana acetate details and original gradient gray and G15 lenses to frame the true definition of cool, functional quality.
Alongside these timeless classics, a new icon proves that today the world of style is ‘Round;. Following the cyclical evolutions of this retro-inspired shape, Ray-Ban literally comes full circle to present a unique combination of tradition and innovation on a variety of Round-inspired cross segment styles.
TIFFANY & CO.


Tiffany & Co. introduces new styles in the Tiffany Eyewear collection for holiday 2015. The latest offerings in the optical and sun categories are accented with the defining details of Tiffany Infinity™, inspired by an ancient symbol of energy and vitality; Return to Tiffany® heart tag, signature of the jeweler’s great legacy of beauty and excellence; and Atlas®, which is presented for holiday giving in a special collection that underscores its iconic status in Tiffany’s design heritage.
VERSACE



Edgy elegance and extreme sensuality are the unique features of the new Versace eyewear Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The iconic symbols of the Maison are reinterpreted in a strong rock and fashion way, that appears in audacious refinement of details: the Vanitas Medallion, featured on distinctive hand-enameled, split metal temples, the 3D Medusa décor and the new “Pop” style of the Couture metal label. The bright colors of this season’s palette further embellish the collection.
VOGUE

The Vogue Fall/Winter 2015 collection reflects the dynamic elegance and visionary glamour of modern women from around the globe.
It launches the Fashion Story #3 - Texture Collection dedicated to and inspired by its three new Muses, the Brazilian model Adriana Lima, the Indian actress Deepika Padukone and the Chinese actress Liu Shishi.
Fashion Story #3 is inspired by the culture of each Muse, that comes to life through three distinct internal patterns. The exotic and tropical blooms define the two styles autographed by Adriana Lima; the filigree of the lustrous aqua green of Indian Jade decorates one style dedicated to Deepika Padukone, and delicated blossoms inspire the two styles signed by Liu Shishi.
