Amy, a literature graduate from Melbourne, approached us a couple of weeks ago and offered to write a very interesting guest post on makeup trends from around the world. She loves to write short stories and reviews and whilst we were busy attending a host of blogger events we thought there couldnt have been a better time to feature her in our little world on the WWW. Amy is a regular contributor at High Style Life with a passion for beauty and makeup and she loves to spend her free time travelling and of course – make up shopping! Let her know what you think of this post on her Facebook and Twitter page.

Women all around the globe rely on and embrace the latest innovations of the cosmetics industry in their day-to-day beauty routine. However, different regions of the world have some typical go-to looks that have been influenced by the culture, and beauty secrets that are passed down from mothers to daughters. Of course, genetics and skin types also define the tradition and newest trends in a certain part of the world. What works for fair-skinned blue-eyed Scandinavian girls usually does not work for dark Arab girls with thick eyebrows and black curly hair. This should not stop us from stealing a few tricks from other cultures and continents, though.

These are some of the hottest makeup trends.

Europe

French women are the flag bearers of European fashion who areknown for being stylish. If you want to feel French, play with nail polish colour – from wildest to smartest. Nail art is the latest craze in Spain, the Netherlands and Armenia as well, in addition to bold eyelids and eyebrows. At the same time, Slovenian women turn to the Far East for some permanent eyebrows inspiration. Hungarian girls are opting for matte lipstick and natural hair dye hues this season. In Latvia, the emphasis is also on bright matte lips. Nude, glowing faces are popular in Romania and Spain. In Germany and Russia, the accent is on makeup that also nourishes, like mascaras for improved lash growth, colour-and-balm lipsticks, nail polishes that also nourish the nails, etc. Right now, a major beauty trend is Ireland is self-tanning.

Middle East

The tradition of wearing niqabs in the Middle East naturally influenced the makeup application. Dramatic eye makeup can be seen in the streets even during the day, but they do not experiment with colours that much. Exotic smoky eyes are the key and, therefore, a black pencil, dark eye shadow and black mascara is something every girl needs to have in her makeup pouch. The accent is rarely on the lips, but putting on some nude shade to emphasize the plumpness of lips is acceptable. Below are seven beauty secrets you should definitely steal from South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and even areas of the Middle East:

rose water,

turmeric,

coconut oil,

mustard seed oil,

lemons,

henna,

fragrance

Japan

Younger generations of Japanese women come up with some of the most imaginative fashion trends. Traditionally, they are known for perfect spotless skin and youthful looks. Face shaving is quite normal in Japan. Its purpose is not just hair removal, but also exfoliation. One of the most eccentric trends right now is the doll face look characterized by rosy blush applied high under the eyes, and fake lashes. Mind you, this is not a special occasion look. Girls wear it every day.

South Korea

Hydration is an important factor of Korean skin care. The ‘water’ trend is huge in South Korea, including everything from hydrating mists to water-based overnight masks. Naturally, natural beauty is the most common style. Korean girls keep it simple – some blush on the cheeks for a glowing look, and mascara on the upper and bottom lashes to make the eyes look broader. Many global trends actually were invented by Korean girls. One of them are the 3D tattooed eyebrows. In order to have "Korean skin", I use ASAP skin care products, since they provide excellent care to all skin types and they do not dry the skin, but moisturize it.

South America

Venezuela is the country with the most Miss World titles. Venezuelan women do not skimp on their beauty products, and they do not neglect any parts. The hair has to be highlighted and perfectly styled, nails manicured, and makeup flattering. Their major concern is femininity rather than creativity. Coloured lower liner instead of highlighter is the latest thing all over South America.
