“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” – Coco Chanel
My mother always tells me every morning, ”You look pretty without makeup” and as much as I would like to step out of the house truly au naturel, I don’t want to have to keep telling people “No I’m not sick!” I love makeup but that does not mean I like stepping out caked and baked. For me it’s all about the ‘essentials’, concealer/eyeliner/lipstick, much like Parisienne women who believe in minimalistic makeup.
...So it was natural for the French fashion and beauty magazine ELLE, considered an institution in its field, to branch out into the creation of a make-up line, inspired by the ultimate Parisienne. Splash, being the exclusive partner for ELLE in the region just launched their new line in the market, adding yet another feather to its cap post the successful launch of Splash perfumes.

Elle lipstick - AED 80

Elle metallic eye shadow - AED 60

Elle 3-in-1 mascara - AED 70
When I received the courier the first thing that got me excited was its luxury custom packaging. My favorites include this gorgeous, utterly pigmented metallic eye shadow that swatches to a beautiful silvery-grey which doesn’t come off as OTT. It blends well and does not have any fall out as opposed to most metallic eye shadows. The lipstick is moisture-matte and applies evenly on your lips with great pigmentation. This shade is a perfect nude pink for every day wear and has a decent lasting power which is why it has found a permanent spot in my handbag. And saving the best for last is this fancy schmancy 3-in-1 mascara that can lengthen, curl and volumnize your lashes in one wand. Let me warn you, you will spend a few minutes amusing yourself with the wand to see how it curls and straightens out with just a twist. Function wise this multi-tasker of a mascara is great for the price of AED 70 and three coats with each step adds just the right amount of drama.

Elle velvet eye shadow - AED 60

Elle crayon magnetic eye pencil - AED 60
The velvet nude eye shadow was nothing spectacular but the texture does deserve a mention because it works great as a strong base that holds and accentuates any color you wear on top of it. The metallic pencil again works better as kohl than as eyeliner and if you want to create a subtle twist tightline your eye with a shade other than black for dreamy eyes.

ELLE Nail Lacquer in the shades Exotic Rose and Ultramarine - AED 45
What also got me excited was their nail lacquer which from a distance resembles YSL’s nail varnish. At AED 45, these tempered glass bottles come with a robust, well rounded brush for easy application on nails of all sizes. The varnish is creamy and not too thick and spreads evenly across the base of your nail. Lastly the most unexpected feature was the quick drying formula much like Sally Hansen’s Insta–Dri leaving no more excuses for messy nails.
A treat to the eyes, this beauty range has a total of 123 products for the face, lips, eyes and nails. The collection offers ultra-sensorial, high-performance formulas along with all the trendy colors to achieve the three iconic looks of the Parisian woman: Nude, Fashion and Chic.

Available at all Splash stores across the UAE, the entire range is available at very affordable prices with nail lacquer priced at Dhs 45, Face products - concealers, foundation, blush etc. Priced between Dhs 70-90 and the Eye range consisting of mascara, shadow, kohl and eyeliner priced between Dhs 60-90.
We are definitely heading to the nearest Splash outlet this week to do some major credit card damage.
