Black on black...that's my jam

As much I love playing with bold and bright colors this summer, it is near to impossible to avoid wearing black…and I mean wearing all black…errrythang. You might think I am crazy for cladding myself in a totally inappropriate shade in this blazing heat but the trick to wearing black in the summer is in the fabrics you choose. It's all about breaking the rules and ruling your style roost!

Outfit Details: Crop top - Montifs, Bugis Street, Singapore, Midi skirt - Miss Selfridge, Heels - Steve Madden, Necklace - Ali Express, Watch - DKNY

Take for example this gorgeous faux leather pleated midi skirt from Miss Selfridge. One look at it would make you think that it would cause a downpour of sweat but the fabric is light, free flowing and doesn’t stick to your skin. What’s great about this material is that it irons out itself if kept on the hanger overnight.

I paired it with this crop top I picked up from Montifs at Bugis Street, Singapore. Montifs is one of the few stores in Bugis that actually sells good quality stuff and I got this at a steal. It’s one of those perfect crops that is fun and not too revealing, provides decent coverage and as a plus actually makes your arms and abs look toned. We all need one of these in our lives.

Taking some inspiration from Pinterest, I amped up the ensemble with these caged heels from Steve Madden. Oh I can’t tell how much I have been looking for a comfortable pair like this. Either the straps would cut into my feet or the ankle would never fit snugly or the heel was ridiculously high or the price was too exorbitant. These SM’s are super comfortable as the straps are actually elastic and the heel is sturdy enough to dance in them.

Because of my penchant for statement neckpieces, I slipped on this baubly faux pearl necklace to complete the look. It complemented the high neck crop top like a dream. This is one of my favorite pieces as it never fails to add that ultimate sophistication to an outfit.

Breaking the rules is what makes fashion interesting. Be your own fashion guru and find your sense of style. Who knows how many people are taking style inspiration from you? ;)
