Product Review: The Face Shop Aqua Tint, Coral Cushion Blusher, Catch My Eyeliner & Trendy Nails

If you have been following us on Instagram you would have seen the lovely beauty hamper we received from The Face Shop at the start of the year. It had practically everything we would need on a short vacation. We tested these products over the last month and finally got down to reviewing them. We will be splitting the review in two posts, today’s post will focus on their makeup products. The review on skincare products will be featured on the blog next week.
Lovely ME:EX Aqua Tint 01 Juicy Cherry
What is it?
Natural water based red lip tint. Available in 2 colors 01 Juicy Cherry/02 Juicy Red
What it claims?
Natural glow just like your own lips. Its moist water type tint gently absorbs into your lips giving it a natural rosy glow.
Upgraded version of water type tint with strong moisturizing effects. The Water Dispersion Gel System creates an aqua gel network film onto the lips that holds moisture and gives smooth & even application.
Long lasting liveliness that doesn’t need to be reapplied. Water soluble coloring helps maintain lips lively and well-colored even after eating
Experience
The packaging is pretty cute and is the perfect size to slip in to your purse. As it is a water based tint you might think that a little carelessness might cause it to spill but we held it upside down and not a drop spilt over.
We used this a few times over the last couple of weeks and found that it gives enough color on the lips. It actually gives a natural deep red and has a decent staying power if you are snacking. It doesn’t smear and is super easy to put on with the wand applicator; just brush it over your lips, two coats is more than enough and you don’t even need a mirror to put it on because the color is just subtle. However the deep color doesn’t last through a proper meal.
Chapstick after the lip tint helps if you’re after a softer look. Another plus is that it doesn’t stain your cups and the brush is really easy to handle.
Our personal recommendation would be to make sure to hydrate your lips over night or before you use this lip tint and then wash it off and apply the color as we found it can dry out your lips a little.
Finally, make sure your lips are smooth and well exfoliated before use. You do not want unsightly lips when your cracked skin gets a deeper color than the rest of your lips, making it obvious.
Conclusion
If you’re not a lipstick/lipgloss person, or have those days where you want to step out without any paint on your face then you might be interested in this product. You can put on some transparent lip plumper or gloss on top if you like, but we like the original matte color that it gives. With a price tag that doesn’t break the bank, this can really work as a staple cosmetic.

Experience
How adorable is this packaging? Yes, a mini fluffy powder puff instantly makes a product that much more exciting and was the first item that piqued our interest when we opened the box. However as cute as the puff might be, we don't actually use it to apply the blush – we prefer the precision of a blush brush, but it's definitely an option when you're on the go.
Coming to the contents, we found that the Face Shop Pastel Cushion Blusher is really a standard, pressed powder blush. The blush feels smooth and silky in the pan but we found that it doesn’t really pick up much powder on the cushion or brush. However it does blends evenly on the skin and gives quite a natural flush to the cheeks and has pretty good staying power.
Our only issue is with the level of pigmentation. One swipe of the blush comes on very sheer and what appears to be a medium peachy pink shade in the tub swatches on as a very light peach on the skin. It needs about 4 layers to show on fair skin and 5-6 on dusky skin but the final result is a fresh luminous glow that is looks amazing as part of your day makeup.
Conclusion
We wouldn’t exactly recommend you run out and buy The Face Shop Pastel Cushion Blushers. From a quick Google search of swatches of their other shades, it seems like all are very light and sheer. We would probably use it on the days when we want to wear extremely light makeup or as one of the layers when contouring our cheeks. For darker skin tones it would probably work more as a highlighter than blush. It is best for those with very fair skin who wear limited makeup and are looking for a natural glow on their cheeks.
Lovely Me:ex Catch My Eye Liner 01 Black
What is it?
Black Eye liner pencil with a sponge tip. Available in Black and Brown.
What it claims?
Easy-to-use application; beginners can easily draw smooth eye lines
A sponge tip attached at the opposite end could be used to make natural and soft smoky makeup (natural gradation effects)
Long lasting vivid color and persistency
Soft texture helps to draw without any disconnection
Experience
The packaging is quite slick with the retractable eyeliner on one end and a soft smudge brush on the other for subtle blending.
We personally prefer using liquid or gel liners as we like our eyeliner to come off as dark and dramatic. This pencil doesn’t give the same effect as a liquid eyeliner but works well as kohl. The pencil comes on as quite pigmented with even precision on the waterline. Application was smooth and the soft texture did not cause any disconnection in one stroke. The staying power wasn't as strong as expected and does need reapplication after a couple of hours.
If you are experimenting with different eyeliners (Cat eyes, graphic eyes, etc) then this can be used to outline the shape. You can then use your favourite liquid or gel liner to fill in the space.
We love the fact that you can twist the product out which is a major plus for us. Sharpening causes such a serious waste of the product in the shavings.
Conclusion
We found it to be a regular eye pencil which works great as a kohl but not so much as a eyeliner. Urban Decay's glide on pencil and Colorbar's Just Smoky kajal are better products with amazing pigmentation and staying power that can be used to outline the entire eye.
Trendy Nails Polish - Basic Original RD 302
What is it?
A deep red nail polish
What it claims?
Uses the same brush of the U.S professional nail brush brand “Dupont” for elastic application
Less brush stroke by grinding the tip of nail brush
Light and elastic brush with 220 bristles which is the standard amount for professional salon nail brush
Distinct color with no brush stroke and streak-free
Experience
We really liked the feel of the bottle and the size is perfect for on the go and to last you enough applications till a new one grabs your interest. Let's be honest, how many of us actually end up using our nail polishes till the very end?
Coming to the formula, we found the color to come on as quite solid and rich in one coat. Application was smooth and pretty quick to dry. It took only a minute or two for the first coat to set and dry. Taking off the polish was also a breeze and it did not leave tough stains. We are pretty rough with our hands, and found the polish to be pretty long lasting especially if you use it with Sally Hansen’s Insta-dri top coat. What you see in the picture above is the 3rd day after application and we did not experience any chips or scratch marks.
We really like The Face Shop's Trendy Nails collection and wouldn’t mind getting more colours to play around with knowing we could get good products for a very reasonable price!
Conclusion
A great inexpensive polish that is opaque in one coat and long lasting if you apply with a top coat. We recommend it for those who are looking for cheaper alternatives and who do not use polish as often as us nail polish addicts.
