If you want a head-turning extraordinary look this winter, then purple lipstick could be your answer. Because hey what can be super sexy, uber edgy, super chic yet challenging to incorporate for a red carpet look right?

How to wear purple lipstick is a question most women tend to seek an answer to at some point. Now that the season has changed you might get the feeling of experimenting with different looks. Here are some of our tips that can come in handy if you want to beat the boredom of using conventional lip colors.
Pick a shade that suits your skin tone
Ladies with warm skin tones will probably look better wearing a lipstick that walks that fine line between a red and a purple, while ladies with cool skin tones can take their pick amongst tons of cooler purples.

Keep eye make-up neutral
This simple, well-known tip for wearing dark lipsticks doesn’t need a lot of explanation. Opt for sexy, neatly lined cat eyes that Angelina Jolie and Dita Von Teese are fans of, or if you'd like add subtle color only to your lower lash line.
Flawless face is a must
It’s a given that deep hued shades like purple look best with flawless velvety skin. So ensure that when you want to emphasize your features, contouring and highlighting are kept to a minimum, executed to perfection and, most importantly, matte. When you have bold lipstick on, you really want to keep the rest of your face neutral and shine-free, for a more refined look.
Go for a long-wear lipstick
A dark lipstick that smudges, runs and leaves stains everywhere is one messy experience you cannot afford to have. Opt for a long-wear, stress-free lipstick you’d actually want (and be able) to wear often and you’ll see that rocking a bold lip can be easy.
Ensure optimal staying power
All lipsticks and glosses tend to bleed into those fine lines around the lips. Bold colors just make it more visible, creating an effect that’s quite unflattering. The trick to run-proof your lips even if you don’t own a lip primer is to just dab in some concealer, line and fill your lips in with a lip pencil.
Below is a simple look that can be worn during the day with an edgy outfit or in the night with a sexy LBD.

We show you how to rock a purple lip with minimal make up so you’re all set to standout before the holiday madness kicks in.
FACE
Once you’ve finished cleaning and moisturizing your face, apply a thin layer of primer to create an even canvas. We used our current favorite the Max Factor facefinity all day primer.
Camouflage your spots and blemishes with a good concealer. Benefit’s boi-ing concealer (#4) does a good job. To effectively cover dark circles, we used the Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer (Medium) all around the eye including our brow bone.
For a flawless finish, we used the MAC ‘s studio fix foundation in NC44.
Give your cheeks a light glowy look with a warm toned highlighter like Karaja Gold & Bronze No 27 instead of a blush.
EYES
Outline and fill in your brows in a shade slightly lighter than your brow color. We used Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow pomade in ‘Dark Brown’.
During the day keep your eye makeup neutral so your lip really stands out. We recommend going for a slick cat eye using a jet black eyeliner. Lakme’s 9 to 5 liquid liner is by far the best and the cheapest.
For the night you can add a pop of color on your lower lash line for a fun flirty look. We mixed NYX pencil eye liners in 'Aqua Green' and 'Blue Eyes' to get this turquoise color.
To complete the look, dramatize your lashes by adding a pair of thick lashes and topping it off with mascara. We used Salon Perfect eyelashes in ‘Perfectly Glamorous No 33’ and generously applied Max Factor’s 2000 calorie mascara on the upper and lower lashes for extreme volume.

LIPS
Buff your lips with lip scrub like Lush lip scrub in Mint Julips.
Dab a bit of concealer to really bring out the true color of your lipstick.
Outline your lips with a shade close to your lipstick. We used Colorbar’s lip liner in 'Purple Rain'
Fill in your lips with a rich deep hued purple lippy like this Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in 'L.U.V'

This holy long-lasting lip color fights tooth and nail to stay on your lips. It’s a rich, deep, impossible-to-ignore shade of purple that has a bright vibe. This is definitely one of our go-to bright lip colors for going out at night. It has the staying power to last through drinking, eating, talking and licking your lips.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, Revlon matte balm in ‘Shameless’ is the most amazing, more-sophisticated-than-goth deep purple. The crayon-style application, minty scent, long wear, and surprisingly smooth formula makes it a super dupe to the Kat Von D or MAC lipstick in ‘Heroine’.
