Have you ever wanted something so much but then reasoned out it was not worth buying because of the climate we live in? Well Trench Coats used to be one of those items till Debenhams made me give in. Perhaps it was seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk around New York that made me want it or just the sheer elegance of this coat that I had to add this to my wardrobe even if I never got a chance to wear it.

I honestly think just like a black LBD or a smart white shirt, every woman should own a classic trench. Try the trend with a neutral beige hue before moving into new colors and styles. I found this light beige one from the Jasper Conran collection in Debenhams when I was not looking to buy any winter wear. To my luck they literally had just 3 pieces left with only 1 in my size (maybe it was meant to be?).

I picked up this black one when I went to Beijing last year in October. I did not expect the weather to be freezing cold and rushed to pick something warm at the nearest mall. There was a store in Beijing APM mall, (formerly Sun Dong An Plaza) that had really pretty winter wear but this Miu Miu inspired black one stole my heart.

Button it over crisp work wear, throw it over your boyfriend jeans on the weekend or work it red carpet style with some classy ankle stiletto boots this winter. Wear it with practically anything - from denim and flats to a blouse and pencil skirt - for timeless style. The longer length will keep you feeling confident while the narrowed waist is perfect for creating curves where there are none, or showing off what you already have.
