From season to season, smokey eye makeup styles differ. In summer, you can experiment with brighter shades, creating daring, summer-ready smokey eyes, while in fall, when colors automatically become muted and dull, you instantly come to love smokey eye makeup in warm, autumnal shades.

Smokey Brown Eyes

We can never get enough of smokey eye makeup as it can instantly elevate your evening look to something truly dramatic. We tried a combination of browns to create a subtle yet dreamy look for fall.

Step 1: Before putting on your eye makeup, prep the surface of the skin with an eye shadow base for staying power. Our favorite is Urban Decay's eye primer potion.

Step 2: Contour your eyebrows properly, giving a divine shape and thickness to them.

Step 3: Apply a cream eyeshadow all over your lid (Clinique color surge eyeshadow trio in ‘Come Heather’)

Step 4: Apply a warm brown color like NYX ‘Taupe’ from the center completely reaching the end of your lids.

Step 5: The darkest eye shadow can be applied in the crease (NYX dark brown). Applying dark color in the crease and blending it upward and outward toward the brow bone elongates round eyes.

Step 6: Apply same taupe eye shadow on your lower lash line from the inner corner to the centre and then then the same dark brown from the centre to the outer corner.

Step 7: To the inner corners of your eyes and under the brows apply a highlighting eye shadow to open up your eyes and make them bigger. (We used ‘Bootycall’ in UD’s Naked Palette 2)

Step 8: Line the upper lashes from corner to corner (we used Benefit’s They’re real eyeliner). For an intensely smoky eye, dip a flathead eyeliner brush into classic black liquid eyeliner and push it into the lash line. Layering your liner with different formulations (pencil, powder, liquid) will give your look staying power.

Step 9: Apply black mascara (Maybelline Colossal Mascara) and false eyelashes (Artmatic lashes in ‘Black Evening’) to make your brown smokey eyes more dramatic!

Step 10: After you’ve finished your eye makeup, work on your face. Use concealer on the areas, where you have some skin flaws to hide. Spread foundation all over your face with the help of a makeup brush. Set your facial makeup with powder to make it last longer and have a mattyfing effect. Apply the bronzer and the blush correctly and you’re done!

Step 11: Create the perfect pout by applying a soft lipstick tone with a satin finish. Keep in mind not to very bright lipstick hues here, since your eye makeup is already well defined!

PRO TIP Smoky eyes can make fair skin look sooty and dark skin look muddy, if done improperly. A warm, sheer gold works on all skin tones and makes the look light and sexy.
